The template itself is free. There is no charge from HLL CRCON Cloud, ever. You only pay Railway for the computing power your install uses, the same way you’d pay for a VPS, just without managing one.

What to expect

Two things make up your Railway bill:
  1. The Hobby plan: $5/month. This is Railway’s base subscription, and it includes your first $5 of usage each month.
  2. Usage beyond that. A real single-server CRCON install uses about $0.30-0.60 per day, so expect a total Railway bill of roughly $10-15 per month. Most of that is the memory used by the stats and automod workers running around the clock.

Real usage from a live install: about half a dollar after a day and a half of running

Railway’s free trial gives a one-time $5 credit, which this stack uses up in a few days. That’s plenty to try it out, but you’ll need the Hobby plan to keep it running.

Keeping an eye on it

  • See your spending any time: open your project in Railway, go to Settings, Usage. That’s the screen pictured above.
  • Set a hard limit: in your Railway account’s workspace settings you can set a monthly usage limit and email alerts, so a bill can never surprise you.

Running more game servers

Each additional game server adds three more services to the same project, so the cost grows with your fleet. Rule of thumb: each extra server costs a bit less than the first one, since the database and other shared parts are already paid for.
